[ Amy stares. ] No, but you're not my enemy, you're my friend. And I like giving my friends stuff.

[ She should probably never tell him about the time she dragged Metal Sonic all the way back to Eggman and slapped a ribbon and a flower on the robot while she was at it-- ]

[Not the f word again!] ...I still can't accept this.

Please? I really want you to.

... [Siiiiigh.] I don't understand your intent.

[ How the fuck doesn't he understand-- she sighs. ]

Friends give their friends gifts. That's the intent, silly.

Hmph. Friends. [By the tone in his voice, he's skeptical of her claim.] If I'm your friend, then aren't you suppose to listen to what they want and don't want?

[ This hedgehog is the most stubborn creature in any world. It's fine though, because she is, too. ]

Not when it comes to this.

[He's stubborn for a reason and everyone fails to take a hint.] What makes this different?

Don't question it. Just know it's very different.

This isn't a game. [Why is she even here and not enjoying her Christmas in the first place?] This needs to stop. There is nothing between us.

Yes, I'm aware, you made that very clear. [ Jeez. ] Anyways, I got all of my friends gifts, so, you're included in that.

[ He can toss it all overboard if he wants. She's already turning to leave again, because she doesn't want to argue, or worse, have it rubbed in her face that there's apparently nothing between them. ]

... [He won't stop her. He also won't toss her gift overboard. Not yet. There's already a smell of coffee beans some amongst her gift. The rest, homemade baked goods, even tiramisu.

...

He's taking all this below deck.]

I do have one question, though.

[ Does he think she's entirely done here? Silky hog-- ]

If there isn't anything between us, why'd you buy me an entire house?

[ She glances over her shoulder towards him again. ]

[He reaches the stairway when Amy pops a question. Stopping.] For the benefit of others. [A glance in her direction.] Your kindness has a way uplifting those around you. A home where you can properly facilitate that here, felt necessary.

[And sure enough, she's been baking for others, and brought the gang of idiots into her home. Doing exactly as he predicted. Why did he felt the need to do this? It may not matter at all in the end, or maybe it'll pay off in far future. He's not losing sleep over it. This was nothing more than a harmless little experiment for him.]

That's very sweet, and it was very kind of you, too, whether you realize that or not.

[ She sighs, and then rubs the back of her neck a little. This is exhausting. ]

I know the book and sweets were from you, too, by the way. Thank you. The tirimisu was a recipe in it that I tried.

...That was given as an apology. [It just happened to be Christmas he decided to deliver the gift. He lifts the gifts she had given him.]

That wasn't a signal to give me anything in return. [...] But I suppose I'll inform you how the tirimisu turned out.

You didn't need to apologize got anything.

[ Even if she did kinda want to beat his fucking head in at the time. She wants to bring up that if he didn't at least care, he wouldn't have bothered-- but she doesn't want to argue or make him mad again. ]

Well, no, but I had already gotten the coffee beans. I just thought it would be a good idea to try something out from the book. Hopefully it turned out alright.

[He narrows his eyes at that. He knows how others generally percieve his actions. So he's certain how he behaved would have been considered unacceptable.]

... [He's quiet, eventhough there are thoughs swimming in his mind. None of which, he can convey, or should.] It will be edible at least. [He says it like a compliment. Unable to think of anything more to say, he starts walking down the steps.] You can see yourself out.

[ He's already deemed the conversation over. She sighs, and then gathers a little courage. ]

I meant what I said the other day.

[ She doesn't wait for his response. Or to see if there's a lack there of. It doesn't matter, and he's made up his mind. Amy's already jumping ship, literally-- she's hopped off the deck and back onto the dock, before she stretches her arms over her head. Time to make the jaunt home. ]

[Unless she's going to drown herself, Shadow says nothing and continues downstairs to settle in the plant room for the rest of the night.

...

A few days will pass, and Amy is going to find a message from him on her shellphone.]

This afternoon. My ship. [There was nothing else to the message.]

[ Fortunately, she's not a certain blue hedgehog--

She immediately looks at the message sent, and blinks. Cryptic. He didn't specify a time, so, she heads out at around two, and makes it to his boat in record time. Knock, knock it's ~~Knuckles~~ the pink pain in the ass! ]

[She'll arrive while he's working on the sails. He's been traveling a lot, and the fabric has started to fray in various spots. While he has a replacement, this sail still has some more trips in it that some sewing and tape will hold it for now.

He looks up from where he's seated on the deck as the pink hedgehog arrives. A moment's pause before he sets down what he's doing. He walks towards her, pass her, toward the steps going below deck. He expects her to follow, and he'll be waiting for her in the familiar plant room.]

[ Amy squints up at the sails. She hums in thought-- maybe she can help him patch it up later. Right now though, he seems laser focused. She climbs aboard, ans then quietly follows him below deck, because in true Shadow fashion, he isn't giving up the ghost so easily as to why he called her here. ]

[Among the usually smell of flowers and plants, there's a faint hint of coffee in the air as well. The coffee maker currently brewing on the desk.] The tirimisu was good. [He abruptly breaks the silence, moving toward the desk.]

It wasn't soggy, light and creamy as it should.

[ She visibly lights up when he speaks, and even more so when he gives his honest opinion of her tirimisu. Just the fact that he had actually eaten it pleases her, honestly.

Her tail wags ever so slightly. ]

Good! I'm glad it turned out okay and that you enjoyed it! I've never made ladyfingers before, so I'm glad they held up to the espresso soak.
